Meet The President
As many of you have probably noticed, the Kurir and CISC info are now being posted on our fantastic website. Please also join us on Facebook (Canadian Indonesian Social Club) to get the latest news. As this century moves forward, we are trying to become more environmentally friendly and encouraging paperless news. I hope that all of the members understand the benefits, and become familiar using the CISC website.
Our last AGM was held on December 11, 2010. We had a good turnout and we recruited new members to our club. I am very proud to announce that we have such a dynamic team on the Board of Directors this year. The dedication and time that these volunteers are committing to the CISC helps improve our club and brings upon more efficiency and new ideas. Of course, without the participation of our general members, the CISC would also not be here. So thank you to everyone, and a reminder to all that renewal of membership is annual. Our Communications Director has done a nice job posting an online membership application that you can access. We are still working on posting an online application and payment that you can fill out to make it more convenient for our members.
On January 22, 2011, the CISC held a fundraiser for the Indonesian Volcano Disaster Relief. It was a bazaar evening filled with music, food, fashion, and dance held at the Crossroads/Mayland Heights Community Centre. It was such a successful event, raising over $9000 to contribute to the relief. We had the delight of having the Malaysian group (MSBCA), the Thai Association, Indonesian student group (PERMIKA), and House For All Nations church perform with us that night. What a wonderful show turned out! It is so great to see everyone commit their time and talents to help this most needed cause, and also representing our country in solidarity.
The CISC annual Easter Egg Hunt was held during the Easter weekend at Crescent Heights Community Centre. As usual, we had food, games, and an easter egg hunt for the children…great family fun! This year it was coordinated by the PERMIKA group. It was another great event working together with them.
This year, new to our club, we are renting out the club space every last Saturday of the month to hold a market “Warung Sabtu”. This showcases our talented cooks/bakers selling authentic homemade Indonesian foods and desserts. We have different vendors every month, so I encourage everyone to come out on a Saturday afternoon (12-3pm), and taste some delicious traditional food that can’t be found in any restaurant in Calgary.
I am looking forward to the spring and warm weather; it has been such a cold and long winter here in Calgary! We hope to see more of you turn out to the social events that are being planned for the year up ahead. Throughout my years involved with the CISC, I always get excited to see such a lively and vibrant community participate and come together.
See you at the next event and enjoy the coming spring!
